What Pets Do
Edit
Other than being adorable and follow players around, pets add stats and gain levels, increasing the passive stat gain they provide.
Feeding
Edit
The pet interface doesn't show what food a pet likes; however, it is possible to know if it will like something by starting to drag it over to the pet interface and its portrait starts to glow. Gemlins will do this with Water or Bow Meows with Sturgeon.
Don't feed your pet more than once every 6 hours and it's best to feed them at least once every 72 hours. Feeding them food they like will not only prevent HP loss but will also earn them some XP. Feeding a pet before 6 hours or not feeding it for 72 hours will cause the pet to lose 3 health points. Osamodas Powder (lv 0 chef recipe) is the only item known so far that restores pet health (1 HP). The powder is not subject to the 6-hour rule, so it can be used as many times as needed, and it doesn't interfere with the feeding intervals.
Leveling
Edit
Pets will gain experience by being equipped while fighting. During a fight the empty sword socket on the pet interface be replaced with a sword icon. Once all 5 swords are there it is no longer possible earn XP for your pet from battles for a certain time. One battle equals 2 exp with is 10 exp for having it equipped on the 5 maximum of battles.
A pet also get's experience by giving it food that it likes to eat (unless it's not hungry). A pet will gain 7 exp for a meal they like and level up after every 50 exp.
